Introduction
Did you know there is a secret bar in London? London is actually full of them! and I am going to be spilling the beans on one of my favourites and a really creative secret bar in London. London is famous for nightlife, bars and boozy events and there is a whole wealth of choice if you’re looking for some fun in the City.
What a lot of people don’t know is there are so many hidden bars to experience if you know where to look!
I headed down to Shoreditch for the weekend, (got a bargain on booking.com) mainly to go to this bar!
Its one of my favourites is a very discreetly positioned bar in the heart of Shoreditch:
The Mayor Of Scaredy Cat Town
Where Is It?
The mayor of scaredy cat town is not easy to track down, which is why its such a great secret bar in London. I have no doubt that many people have been within arms reach of it without even knowing.
It’s situated in The Breakfast Club Spitalfields. But don’t think you can just turn up and you will be able to locate it….its not as easy as that!
The Breakfast Club
The breakfast club has loads of venues popping up all over the country, so you have probably heard of it, but for all of those who haven’t, I will give you a quick low down.
Its a kitch and quirky diner that is famous for its breakfasts (obviously!) and serves the best English and American grub. They also do great burgers and I would highly recommend the disco fries! (great after a few beers!) and they sell alcoholic drinks there too, just a visit to the breakfast club alone is a good shout for a weekend drink!
But what about the secret bar in London hidden in the Breakfast club, I hear you ask? ok, ok lets get on to that.
How To Get In
You’re not going to be able to get in without knowing how to get in, and it wouldnt be a secret bar in London without a password!
You can say the password to any member of staff serving you or the host. You can also use the password if you are already in the Breakfast club having a bite to eat, or you can just walk right in and say it.
The password is:
“I’m here to see the Mayor”
Once you have said this (as stupid as you may feel saying it) this will gain you entrance. but next you need to know…..where is the entrance?
Where To Get In
This wouldn’t be such a good secret bar in London if it didn’t have one thing…..a secret entrance!
The staff member will escort you to the entrance. You may feel a little confused when they take you to the large Smeg fridge but go with it!
They will open the fridge door and ask you to step inside!
As you will see you won’t be greeted with a weeks worth of food shopping but instead…. a secret corridor! ooooooooh!!!
Follow the corridor down the stairs until you find a door. Open the door that reveals a large basement style secret bar!
This was so cool and blew my mind a little that there was a whole other location underneath the Diner brimming with people.
Once Inside
The bar is small but big enough. It has quirky decor and some delicious cocktails! It is a low lit, intimate and very speakeasy style venue.Candles on tables, brick walls and high seaters. It really does fit the theme of a 1920’s speakeasy. The toilets are pretty cool too! The Mayor of scaredy cat town is great for a date night or to hang out with friends. And to keep things discreet, there is even a separate exit so outsiders won’t clock on.
I have been here many times and always get excited when coming back. Especially when I am taking someone for the first time! My tip would be to keep it a secret from your friends and watch the joy and confusion when they experience the bar for the first time!
