Introduction
Today we are going to look at some of the best bars in Bath. When thinking about Bath your first thoughts are probably more towards the beautiful cobbled streets, Roman Bath houses and the endless history surrounding the city. Nightlife is probably not something you would associate with Bath but actually, the nightlife here is great!
This is in part thanks to Bath University, ensuring the students of Bath always have somewhere to go out mid week and party until the early hours (ahhh to be a student again!).
This also means you can find some really good drinks deals as well if you go at the right time!
I love Bath for many reasons but one of the reasons I look forward to a weekend away in the Somerset City is because the bars in Bath really are the best!
I have picked out a few of my favourite bars in Bath to get you started and I would really recommend paying them a visit, you wont be disappointed!
Flan O’Briens
21 Westgate Street, Bath BA1 1EP
As with all my blogs, its tradition to start the list in an afternoon drinking spot, and what better spot than Flan O’Briens! You cant go wrong with an Irish pub and this one is perfect!
Its right in the heart of the city and has outdoor seating, perfect to take it all in and people watch.
I always sit outside when I come here as I love the position of the bar, right in Bath Square. Its the perfect place to put your feet up for a bit after a morning of shopping or exploring the sites.
the food here is pub grub and its a good place to get a nice lunch or a light snack.
The drinks prices are reasonable but don’t expect any flashy cocktails as this is a proper pub that does what it says on the tin. I stuck to the pints but if you want to get in the Irish spirit you could always opt for a Guinness.
The bar staff are super friendly and very quick at taking orders and bringing your drinks.
It has a great vibe by day and gets even more lively by night! Its the perfect location and perfect pub to start off a pub crawl of the best bars in Bath!
The Botanist Bath
The Octagon, 25 Milsom Place, Bath BA1 1BZ
I LOVE the Botanist bar! With more and more bars of this chain popping up all over the country its clear to see they are doing something right!
The Botanist theme is a secret garden with trinkets and potions hanging from the walls and ceilings. The Botanists use the ingredients in their garden to make the most unique food and drinks.
The story is the Botanist forage all the ingredients they use to create the floral, herby drinks and you will always find something different to try here.
They also have a build your own brunch option and the food is just as creative as the drinks.
There is a downstairs cellar bar which can be hired for private functions too!
If you’re lucky you might even time it right and visit when they have live music.
This is a really quirky, refreshing bar that is completely unique.
The Botanists are experts in their field and make a great cocktail!
Drinks prices are on the slightly higher side but with the choice of drinks its worth paying for.
The Common Room
Ahhh the Common room has to be on the list of best bars in Bath!
Step into the bar and be taken back in time to a 1950’s beach resort. With décor to compete with the tackiest of Hawaiian shirts and a tiki theme that could transform those dark winter nights into a summer holiday, this bar in Bath really does know how to have fun!
They really have pulled out all the stops when it comes to designing a theme here and it really works! If you like pinna colada’s – then you will love it here!
Set over two floors, the ground floor has a small but worth while dance floor where DJ’s will be spinning away, and you can dance with the LED light wall as you perfect Instagram backdrop.
For a more chilled vibe head upstairs to the lounge and sit back and sip on a sex on the beach whilst taking in the Caribbean surroundings.
This is such a fun bar that knows how to party!
Circo Cellar Bar And Lounge
16 – 18 George Street, Bath BA1 2EN
One of the things I love about the bars in Bath is that some are located in really cool places, this bar is a great example of that.
We actually stumbled across this bar on the way to Opium and I am so glad we did!
Set in a Cellar ( obviously) this bar is full of charm and sophistication. It screams cool! With its chesterfield sofa’s panelled and classy blue walls along with copper touches it the perfect place to unwind.
Its drinks choices are extensive and the mixologists have the best knowledge of how to use what they have to hand.
The servers are attentive and charming and I felt completely relaxed and ready to unwind.
I would reccomed the Esspresso Marinti! Its one of the best I have tasted in a long time!
Come the weekend it hosts a resident DJ playing an extensive mix of music. It is also open until 3am!
The bar has also won the Bath Life Award for the Best Bar in Bath 2013 and 2019 so I am confident you will have a great time here!
Opium Bar
The Vaults, Spring Gardens Road, Bath BA2 6PJ
You may or may not know this but I am a MASSIVE fan of a good speak easy (secret bar) so I try to hunt one down in every city I visit and Bath has done well with this one!
I think this has to be one of my favourite bars in Bath not just for the AMAZING cocktails but also the theme and the layout of the bar.
Its a tricky one to track down, set under a bridge in the Bath vaults with just a small door to give away its location but please hunt it down, its so worth it!
Its hard to describe the theme of this bar as it has a bit of everything going on. Its like walking into someone’s living room, but at the same time visiting an old stately home. It just has so much to see. I found myself walking around exploring every room.
Another thing I liked about this bar is the comfy seating area, its so comfy its almost like enjoying a cocktail in bed.
The bar staff are great at recommending drinks to suit your pallet and they make a point of getting to know their guests.
They are also really good and making off the menu drinks too, so if there is something you like but cant find it on the menu, just ask and they will acommodate.
Side note – They also sell absinth, this seems like a great idea at the time but think long and hard before you order it!
For a more intimate night, consider hiring out the secret room for a private function.
There are plenty of other bars in Bath but these are the most unique and I feel like its more fun to explore new bars instead of ending up in yet another Revolutions bar!
